I am not moving until February.

I want to move, but the two that want to stay are so obviously unprepared that I really don't feel as though I can go in good conscience.

I have a lot of mixed feelings about this. Waiting a little bit longer does work to my advantage insofar as I won't have to worry about coming up with the money for the truck because we'll have our tax refund by then... it gives more time to pack, although that's been going along just fine, really.

It's not as big a job as I expected, the packing, for the simple reason that I have been weeding out our possessions for two years now, slowly but surely. I got rid of a lot of junk--even more than I had realized. Plus it's a small house, so stuff that wasn't in active use but was needed (like a set of holiday dishes, for example) is carefully boxed so it can be safely stored. Even the stuff in my attic is neatly boxed, so if I didn't want to go through those boxes because of time considerations, they could just go right into the truck and I could go through them at the new house as we unpacked.

We have to take apart the bookcases, but that's just spending some time with the cordless screwdriver, and the neat thing about the way those are designed is that if I need them not as tall, it's just a matter of cutting the sides--that's how they are put together. I already had a bunch of my knick-knacks packed because I was going through them and giving away/getting rid of the ones I don't like as well or needed a break from, and everything that was out now pretty much fit in a single box.

I'm finding in many cases, an area that looks really cluttered seems worse than it is--part of the issue right along has been not that I have so much stuff, but that I didn't really have enough room to store it. Even with my desk piled up the way it is right this instant, I could clear it with one box because I had gotten rid of most of the junk already.

So that part is at least a plus. Now that I have seen how fast we can pack and how little there really is, I would say that we'll need two days lead time, I can go get the truck and all we'll need is the time spent loading it. Not too bad at all for a whole house.

But still... ugh. I really wanted to get this over with, and it's just delay, delay, delay.

At least I'll be able to make a few trips and at least attempt to get things more ready for our ultimate arrival.

Why am I not surprised that they aren't prepared?

Ugh. Sorry about the delay. Guess it's time for you to put some fire under them and hope that they get the hint quicker.

(decided a good comment would be fun)

it is always hard to have to leave home
especially when you're mostly comfortable there
they can still quit dragging along though

and hey, you an still go visit for a free(ish)-stay vacation

you'll want to wait out badger season anyway
(mooching giant rat/racoon/ball of teeth bastards)

i thikn you'll be much happier once you get there
and there won't be all these delays in good things happening
and you'll agree that it was definitely worth the wait
