100 Posts in 100 Days: Day 30
Jan. 30th, 2012 12:25 pmCat weirdness today.
A brief digression: When we first moved in, the living room used to be really drafty. Not only was the door drafty, the whole frame was drafty, and trying to plug it up was of limited value, in part because the door is opened and closed frequently.
When we put up the bookcases just after we moved in, we created a small alcove with two of the bookcases and an interior door with frame. This has proved really handy--I put my hopechest in there so you can sit down to remove muddy shoes, and it's a LOT easier to keep cats from escaping, because if they manage to get past the first door, the outside door still isn't open.
It took a little while for Morpheus to get used to the setup, but otherwise it works great.
So Beaker wanted to go out this morning. I opened the interior door and stepped inside. He came into the entryway, suddenly LEAPED three feet straight up in the air and went running back into the house.
When he calmed down to try again, I noticed he was scenting the air like crazy, despite there being nothing visible outside. The dogs next door were pretty quiet as well, not like they would be if the neighbor dogs had come into the yard.
Nermal scented the air as well. I wonder if the local bear came through the yard early in the morning? That's all I could think of that would have a novel scent that might spook the cats. Well, that or a big cat.
Strange.
