100 Posts in 100 Days: Day 2
Jan. 2nd, 2012 01:50 pmWe're getting our first real winter weather today, we're supposed to end up with 6-8 inches total snow over the next couple of days.
This amount may end up drastically reduced, at least for our area, because we were supposed to have 1-3 inches already, and we have exactly 0.
I don't blame the good folks who predict the weather, because it's next-to impossible to calculate the effect of the ground still being so warm. Originally they were calling for the temperature to be in the mid-twenties, and we've already surpassed that, although the temperature has dropped to about 27 since I looked this morning.
It's definitely been a strange winter! Even with the current forecast, by Saturday we're supposed to be back up into the fifties. I had noted yesterday, when the temperature hit 60, that it looked more like early March outside than January first--the grass is still green, and the only thing the trees are missing are the swollen buds.
If this keeps up, I'm going to be pruning my grapevine at the end of this month rather than in mid-February.
