Happy Holidays, everyone!
Dec. 24th, 2011 06:45 pmChristmas, Yule, Hanukkah, Festivus or even Heaven's Day, I wish you all a healthy and happy holiday.
I haven't completely abandoned my 100 posts in 100 days goals, I intend to re-start from the beginning on January 1st. Long story short, I got sick. Really, REALLY sick. I have a touch of asthma, and often it flares up a bit in October/November. This year was very warm very late, but we had no sooner really closed up the house and put plastic on the windows for the winter when I started having problems.
Instead of getting better after a couple of weeks like it usually does, it got worse, and it got to the point that I knew I was going to have to pay a visit to the ER for a breathing treatment, like it or no.
Ben was the one who figured it out. We had been using Feline Pine cat litter because we wanted to use a biodegradable litter, and I was ALLERGIC to it. While I was quite ill, I wasn't sick enough to justify an ambulance, so my neighbor was going to drop me off at the ER.
Ben proceeded to damp mop the entire house. He removed the litter box we kept in front of the back door and he went through and dusted and mopped, and since it was still very warm, removed the plastic on my bedroom window and put the fan back up and turned it on low.
My neighbor got stuck at work very very late, and by the time he got home to bring me, I had fallen into an exhausted sleep, and he and Ben figured since I was finally resting, they probably should just leave well enough alone for the night.
Damned if I didn't wake up in the morning DRASTICALLY improved. Sure, I was a bit wheezy still, but within 48 hours of removing the offending cat litter, the attack was over.
So of course I had work to catch up on, which I managed to do more or less, and then about a week after I finally felt human, I woke up with a 102 degree fever!
Happily, that was just a touch of the flu or some virus because I recovered fully within a few days with absolutely no complications and here I am to tell the tale.
Needless to say, my plans to send out cards went straight down the toilet, but better luck next year, and I'll see you all on the first of 2012!
