It's too early for flu season...
Sep. 30th, 2007 07:20 pmSo why have I spent the last three days feeling like death warmed over?
I hate gettting sick, but I'm at least on the mend now. Something nasty is obviously making the rounds, to get me to actually lie down on the couch.
One good thing came out of it, though. I had trotted out some of my favorite books to re-read, among which were the Liaden Universe books by Sharon Lee and Steve Miller.
Wonderful reads, all of them, a winning combination of space opera and good old-fashioned romance. In fact, my biggest gripe is that there aren't enough of them! So when I dragged my weary carcass to the computer chair today, I looked to see if any more had been published.
It was at their website that I got the disturbing news that the publisher Meisha Merlin has closed down, I don't know how many of my flist are familiar with this publisher but they also handle(d) PC Hodgell, another very good writer who doesn't have half the following she ought to have (she's good enough that Charles De Lint recommends her and did a personal introduction in one of her book re-issues, just to give you an idea).
But I digress. What I wanted to pass on to the f-list was that Sharon Lee and Steve Miller have a new Liaden Universe novel in progress here, so if you haven't ever read them before, here's an excellent chance to do so. I especially direct this to those of my f-list in the fandom category, I really think you would enjoy the Liaden stories if you have never read them. (Lilly? Coleen? Fen? Shaddyr? ;) )
If you like them, pass the link on. I'm tired of crap, formulaic stories with unimaginative plots getting star billing when the decent authors with something a bit more original are struggling and not getting the recognition they deserve.
