I was falling asleep when I posted that last entry...
It was also really cold, so I just went to bed. The second space heater I picked up is a little fancier than the first one, it has a temperature LED. It lets you set a specific temp, plus it shows the current temperature.
It was about 51 when I realized it did that, and although the heaters were doing a good job considering they were starting from the same temp as outside, it was still damned nippy in here.
Fuzzy responded magnificently. While the other three cats were running for cover, he proceeded to do a full inspection of the entire house, including getting up on the window sill to get a look outdoors. He keeps hearing birds, he's all excited.
I put Binky in my room with Charcoal, and being more enclosed did seem to help him, although he huddled in a corner and meowed piteously for while. Arioch hid under the bed, but came out for a pat when I called him.
When I decided the most sensible thing to do was get some sleep, I directed one of the space heaters into the room, and discovered Binky and Charcoal huddled in the corner. It was cute. I'm glad I brought those two together, they are buddies (they are almost the same age) and they often nap together and groom each other, and it looks like they will comfort each other too.
I crawled into the sleeping bag and collapsed until a few hours ago. The house is much more pleasant now. It's only eight degrees warmer outside than it was when came in, but the kitchen area is already up to 66, and now that I have the second space heater in the living room (the rooms are connected) instead of towards the bedroom, that will probably get even warmer over the rest of the day. I'm actually quite comfortable now.
Waking up was funny. I had given some of our couch pillows to Binky and Charcoal, I figured it would be a piece of home, and it did help. I woke up with Arioch and Fuzzy sleeping above my head and those two curled up with the pillows in the corner.
Fuzzy continues his explorations, I was heartened to see Charcoal emboldened enough to inspect the bedroom if not the rest of the house. Binky seems calmer now that he has staked out a "spot", it will probably take him another day to start poking around.
Four kitties down, 7 to go. w00t.
