I did the taxes last night. It was as good a night to do it as any because I caught my darling daughter's cold and I was miserable anyway.
I found out something about being a stock owner that I did not know before. It is a simple thing, it just hadn't occurred to me.
To buy the house, I had sold everything. But of course, some of those stocks I had owned since 2000. Did you know when your broker sends you your 1099B, the original info about the stock isn't on it?
Yeah. So here I am trying to figure out what I'd paid for the stock and exactly when I'd gotten it, dating back to the year 2000... I was tearing out my hair for a while there.
Happily, on Etrade, they didn't have that info BUT they did have my profit and loss statement from the sale, so I was able to get everything filled out. I didn't owe much in capital gains when it was all said and done, so I was pleased.
So the taxes are e-filed, and I've even gotten the mail that my Federal Return has been accepted already. They are saying the money will come in on or about February 10. It may well come in earlier, but they are on the way, meaning I can afford to rent a moving truck.
I'm going to be making one more trip out there before the official move. Ben is going to let his job know that the 24th is his last day, and that gives him 4 days off so we can finish packing it up.
I can't believe it's almost time! YAY!
