E3 to be no more?!??!?!?!?!

It happens every year in May--one of the biggest, if not the biggest trade show for people in the video game industry.

The buzz is it's going to be cancelled

I'm really bummed--I had hoped to be able attend one over the next few years.

Huh. That's really surprising, since it still seems to be quite successful and well-attended, although I haven't gone for a few years (since I got out of the biz). Certainly, E3 isn't anything like Comdex, which didn't bother to change with the times and has now gone the way of the dinosaur.

Whoa... I just read the press release from the Entertainment Software Association. I'm still pretty floored by it though, because it did seem to still be quite successful.

That's sad to hear. Seems like a lot of conventions are slowly dying off due to them being too expensive.

wow. this makes me even more sad that i did not try to get valve to cast me as gordon freeman teh year that half-life came out. back then, i was a dead ringer for the art. that woulda been a week to tell stories about...

Okay, you're going to get sick of hearing from me on this subject. :-p

I don't know if you read Penny Arcade, but it just updated with a relevant (and funny!) strip:

LOL! I'm not sick of the posts at all. I just think it's a shame--I'm working on becoming a part of the gaming industry(progammer) and that was one of my things I really wanted to do, after the years of hearing about it and all.

I used to run an online game review magazine (it was quite awhile ago), so I managed to go to E3 for several years as press... it was such a wonderful experience! I wouldn't be surprised to find something else eventually pop up to replace it, because it's just such a perfect way to drum up publicity for nearly everything game related.
